Scholarly Values and Community Engagement: A University-Wide Conversation

UCI’s campuswide theme for this academic year is ‘The Scholarly Values’. This session is designed to highlight how community engagement at UCI reflects and shapes our core scholarly values. Through a conversation among faculty leading diverse engagement efforts, we aim to surface deeper questions about what unites us as a university, what we stand for, and how we can strengthen our role in public life—especially at a time when trust in higher education is under strain.

Moderators:

  • Richard Arum, Professor of Sociology and Education and Dean Emeritus of the School of Education
  • Valerie Jenness, Distinguished Professor of Criminology, Law and Society

Panel:

  • Keramet Reiter, Professor of Criminology, Law & Society and Director of LIFTED
  • Julia Lupton, Distinguished Professor of English and the co-Director of the New Swan Shakespeare Center
  • Andres Bustamante, Associate Professor of Education and Faculty Director of OCEAN
